November 3rd, 2009AWESOME!!!
Brilliant alien/sci-fi movie (directed by 30 year old Neil Blomkamp!) with skinhead militaries, nigerian outlaws, nasty whites and dumb aliens.
A crazy pogrom set in contemporary South Africa dealing with sensitive issues such as racism, intolerance and refugee camps.
Food for thought and a corrosive reminder of recent events that have taken place South Africa itself.
Very clever!
Studio Patrick
November 1st, 2009Still at A.L.I.C.E, Studio Patrick opened their first solo show in the project room of the gallery.
Under the title “Family”, Anaïck Moriceau, Nicolas Peuch and Petra Peuch put up an energetic display of drawings, cute embroideries, and a knitted blanket wall piece. In the middle of the room, they installed a black, rather menacing, child size hut with a giant bouquet of colorful pompons hanging over it.
To add to the homely atmosphere, Anaïck served some delicious homebaked chocolate chip cookies.
Pica Pica
November 1st, 2009Pica Pica opened their first solo Brussels show at A.L.I.C.E gallery.
On the walls: lots of paintings, big and small, of piles of objects and photographs in Pica Pica constructed frames.
In the space: handmade cabinets displaying wood sculptures, colorful constructions and a human scuplture under a survival blanket, ventilated by a (again handmade) fan.
Outside: a huge giant holding a strange construction on a spray painted background. Very cool.
Magical Ann Veronica
November 1st, 2009Rayonnement
October 22nd, 2009Textile silk-screening session with students at Ecole supérieure du 75: the brief was to create Radiance effects by manipulation of the fabric and the use of tape and stickers directly applied to clear screens or to the fabric.
A few picts…
Hélène Machin
October 22nd, 2009Hélène Machin has just finished a year research at the “Fondation de la Tapisserie Tournai”, Belgium.
For the annual exhibition, she has put on a great show of hardcore crochet, silk-screening, and objects such as crucifixes and gravy jugs. Covering hot topics such as feminism, sports, power, sex, religion, family and more, the result is a mad installation where materiels meet for a weird colourful sexual celebration.
Really worth the visit and on view till 31st october.
sunday pizza
October 22nd, 2009Easy, quick pizza… a Mr Miss sunday delight…
Get a flat maroccan bread from bakery or from freezer, slice through the middle and decorate with tin tomato and “bottom of the fridge” ingredients. In this case, we didn’t have any tined tomato ut we had half a bag of mozzarellla, a pack of grated cheese, a few cherry tomatoes and some fried mushrooms.
Bang in the oven for 20mn, finnish under hot grill… and impress yourself.
