Mum’s At Work

Friday, August 29th, 2014

How can a one make art work, when most of the week is dedicated to kids, running the household and working?
So few hours available for studio practice.
And 2 months school holiday makes the whole thing even more complicated and … frustrating…
To overcome this feeling of failure, Anaïck Moriceau and I decided to make a silk-screened poster during our holiday week in Bretagne.
Our days at the seaside with the kids enabled us to collect some materials which we solarised. We gained time by using ready mixed inks which were lying around in the studio. The formula went: concentration + simplicity = efficiency.

So between cups of tea, bathing time, shopping and cooking meals, we managed to get all three screens exposed and printed.

Meanwhile, the kids played, fought and watched a few life-saving cartoons.

……The result is an edition of 10 prints. A composition of coolness and plenitude which reflected “some” of the aspects of our week!!
And every evening by 9PM, we were ready to fall into a heap.

Jubilee tea and new studio inauguration! yippee!

The sun is always coming back.

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

Open studio at Robert Quint‘s home. The show is entitled “The sun is always coming back” and his whole house is invaded with his glittery energetic paintings and those of his guest for the 2 week-ends, Pascal Courcelles.
Behind a huge canvas of sky, we get a peep of his piled up studio and tools. Really cool! He walks us through the rooms, explaining a painting here and there, recounting his one year Berlin residency and future projects. Yeah!

Thick oil paintings and mobile by Pascal Courecelles.

We visit Daniel Henri’s Tournai textile studio, a wonderful inspired and creative space. Daniel has just got back from Paris where he was showing work at the new fair “Maison d’Exceptions” dédicated to textile creation and exceptional know hows.

Downstairs: knit and embroidery at the rear and showroom at the front.

Upstairs: super long silkscreening room and dying corner.
Spot the lined up screens propped against the spray paint can to access the plugs beneath!

Ateliers du Haut

Order rules! I have total fascination and respect for people who manage to keep their workspaces so organised. Mayonnaise tubs and vegetable plastic racks come in handy… I hope for an atelier like this!
