A trip to Gent

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

This month….
GO TO GENT!

1. Eat an egg-cheese hamburger at MARTINO’s with fritjes and HOME-MADE really DELICIOUS mayonnaise.
This place use to look like a US 1950’s diner, and served the famous Martino raw meat sandwich…. for some reason the owners decided to do major transformation works and it looks…. less cool…. but food is still really great!
2. Or veggie option: cheese omelette with fresh cream and fritjes….. the owner explains that they pour cream onto the omelette to counter the bitterness of the cheese…. try this at home it’s Ricco!
3. Go to the S.M.A.K. and see the impressive mural painting by Koen van den Broek
4. Then check out Ed Templeton’s Cemetery of Reason.
An intimate and transgressive exhibition with a skate feeling: travel photos, paintings, diaries, thoughts….
And have a spy on the Templetons’ readings….

= A SUPER DAY!

Mies Van Der Rohe haus and Günther Uecker

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Visit with Frederik Schikowski to the Mies Van Der Rohe Haus in Berlin (east). A very rectangular bungalow, with lots of light, which was built for a couple but later used by the stasi. The only round features are the door handle holders.
The house is now a space for art installations. We particularly admire 2 very beautiful paintings by Günther Uecker: streched large white linen canvas splattered with blue and black paint. The masking tape marks wich must have keept the canvas flat while he was working are left visible.
