“1sur1” is a small independent space, run by Gilles Van Thienen and Nicolas Grimaud.
It’s an ex- shop, on a corner of a main road in Saint Gilles, Brussels, and is only visible from the outside. “1sur1” invited Harrisson and Roberta Miss to do an intervention in the gallery.
The project as inspired by a new tax regulation installed in Saint-Gilles, aiming to limit the amount of Night shops and Call shops in the area. It seemed appropriate to turn the gallery into a fake Night shop / Call shop, using the graphic code of these specific shops.
To do so Harrisson & Roberta Miss walked the streets taking pictures of various shops, observing the signs, stickers, and language used, then reconstructed a simplified version from memory, in the gallery (no use of text).
The flyer, hung by the door to the shop, with no names on it.
The idea was to keep the project anonymous so that the public didn’t realise that it was a fake.
The installation has been pretty successful, as a few night wanderers got caught: stopped their car and tryed to get into the shop.
