The painting students!
On the invitation from the Maison culturelle d’Ath to show some work, Jean-Pierre Scouflaire decided to not go alone, and took us along with him.
Jean-Pierre and myself tutor the painting section of the art and design college “75” in Brussels.
It’s a weird and wonderful place and when the wind blows the right way, it can get very fiery and productive.
For this project, we gave all the students a small photocopied fragment of a large picture without telling them what it’s origine was. We asked them to re-work the fragment on a 20 x 40 cm surface, which we then assembled to re-compose the original large picture, which was in fact a reproduction of “L’origine du monde” by G. Courbet.
This was the result:
We also asked some students that had graduated previously to put up some of their new work and showed some ourselves too.
Jessica’s pixelled photos.
Kifa’s colourful paintings.
Jean-Pierre’s large destabilizing white constructions and wine tinted woodcuts.
